When choosing the right respiratory protection, it is important to know precisely what work the user will be undertaking and the risks involved. Environmental factors must also be considered and whether there are specific regulations that have to be followed.

Sundström Safety AB manufactures respiratory protection equipment for industrial use. The products are designed to protect the wearer against dangerous and contagious substances by filtering inward-flowing air. They do not offer protection from dangerous and contagious substances which the wearer may generate whilst exhaling, as the products do not filter outward-flowing air.

Sundström Safety AB's products constitute product covered by Regulation (EU) 2016/425 for Personal Protective Equipment and are certified according to relevant and valid EN standards, as well as all, or part, of the range of products being approved by corresponding standards and regulations in the USA and Australia. In addition, many products have a so-called system approval, which implies that they have been approved for use only with products that have been tested and approved together.

Sundström Safety AB's products do not comply with Council Directive 93/42/EEC regarding medical devices and the standards required for medical equipment used in health care. This is due to the fact that Sundström Safety AB’s products do not protect from potentially dangerous and contagious substances which the wearer may generate whilst exhaling, as the products do not filter outward-flowing air. Furthermore, Sundström Safety AB's products are not sterile.

Use of Sundström Safety AB's products in situations and environments where there is a requirement to filter both inward- and outward-flowing air is at the user/organisation's own risk. Using products together that have not been tested and approved together is not permissible accordingly, and is therefore also at the user/organisation's own risk.

"There is no simple, unambiguous answer to the question of how long a gas filter lasts. The multitude of factors that influence the service life of the filter make more or less every single case unique. It is important that the employer draws up a respiratory protection programme containing clear information about when a filter should be replaced. This is especially important in the case of gas filters, since these lose their purifying effect when they are saturated. Using smell or taste as a sensor is not always feasible, because many substances have no clear properties of smell or taste. Below are a number of factors affecting the service life of a gas filter. Concentration: The concentration of the substance is a very important factor in assessing the service life of a filter. A high concentration means a shorter service life, and a low concentration means a longer one. Humidity and temperature: Humidity and temperature are important parameters, and high humidity generally shortens the service life of a filter. Warmer air and high humidity contain considerably more water per unit volume. Contamination and mixtures of types of contamination: Contamination and mixtures of types of contamination affect filters to different extents. The service life of filters therefore differs between different work environments. Air volume, i.e. the user's physical characteristics: The quantity of air that passes through the filter determines how much contamination the filter is subjected to. In heavy work, more air per minute is used than in light work. There are great individual differences, and people who carry out the same work in the same environment can exhibit great differences in air consumption."
The SR 510 P3 R particle filter is a so-called mechanical filter. Broadly speaking, mechanical filters work like a fine net; the particles are captured and the pure air passes through very small holes in the filter medium. The more particles are captured in the medium, the more effective is the filtering. This means that you should replace the filter when breathing resistance increases noticeably. The SR 510 has been tested against a particle size of 0.4 micron, which is considered to be the most difficult particle size to capture with a particle filter. Larger and smaller particles are more easily captured by the filter. The SR 510 captures all types of particles such as dust, smoke, vapour, spray, spores, bacteria and viruses.
No, it causes leakage between the mask and face and provides a large reduction in the protection. Use instead spectacle kit SR 341.
"R= Reusable means that it may be reused. NR= Not Reusable means it is used only for one shift.
The nominal protection factor is based on laboratory measurements and is the lowest level that a respirator must meet. The assigned protection factor is based on workplace measurements and the actual protection factor as a trained operator is expected to achieve.
A full face mask has larger contacts surfaces on your face and a stronger head harness that holds the mask in place, thus reducing the risk of leakage between the mask and face.
Pre-filter captures coarse dust and particles, are changed frequently and extends the life of Particle filter SR 510 P3 R
Silica dust inhalation may cause diseases such as ”silicosis”, which is an chronic lung disease. It may also take many years (10-30) before the disease is detected after being exposed to silica. The disease mainly affects people who work in construction, foundries, mining and quarries. Use respiratory protection unless the silica dust level can be kept below the limit 0.1 mg/m3. Respiratory protection should be at least a half mask respirator with P3 filter that is effective against silica dust.
If the paint is solvent based, use a brown A-filter SR 217 A1 or SR 218 A2 combined with a particle filter SR 510 P3 R and pre-filter SR 221.
